ART:Jamaica is in its eighth year of running as an online space to support & contribute to the development of the Arts in Jamaica. With just under 100 articles being written in support of the local art scene and 200,000 page views and approximately 900 followers & subscribers on various platforms. These are modest figures comparatively by international standards but it does represent a tight-knit core community in a small arts scene. This was achieved mainly with zero budget and the voluntary efforts of one visual artist, myself, contributing part-time during post-graduate studies and full time art practice and teaching jobs.
As we journey into our ninth year there are several ventures I would love to embark on which can further add to the functionality and scope of this site. For example I would love to be able to:
- increase our content output and range
- provide online facilities for creatives to showcase and promote their work,
- facilitate more institutional partnerships and events and
- generally improve the website.
These are goals which if achieved will help connect and support the creative community. In order to achieve this some funding is required to facilitate the increased hours and resources needed to take ART:Jamaica to the next phase. I will be running various funding campaigns to meet certain goals. Please check back here soon to find out more about how you can support ART:Jamaica and the Arts. You can also send an email to discuss funding proposals.
